By Eastwood   |    July 4, 2011 12:54 pm    |   Motorsports, Random   |    0 Comments

If you are a member of PETA, don’t watch this video. The vehicle above is a Lamborghini LP670-4 SV (Super Veloce). And here we have a squirrel against the Lamborghini LP670-4 SV. This is not a special squirrel, it has no special powers. It’s just your average tree climbing, nut gathering squirrel. The Lamborghini on the other hand is one of the makers biggest, fastest and baddest models. Who wins? Watch the video to see how it comes out.

BMW M5 & M3 CSL SEDAN???

By admin   |    June 16, 2011 3:16 am    |   Motorsports, Motorsports   |    0 Comments

There has been alot of anticipation for the upcoming super-sedan. But this past weekend BMW’s M performance division held a special event in Munich, Germany where it showcased a number of special models, such as, a concept version of the upcoming 2012 BMW M5.

In the Super-Sedan spirt BMW’s go-fast division also rolled out a very special concept version of the M3. Built using parts from the track-focused M3 GTS, the new concept is essentially a stripped out and more hardcore version of the M3 Sedan and hints at a return of the CSL badge.

Intersting enough is the fact that, CSL stands for Coupe, Sport, Lightweight and marks the purest “street legal” but most track-focused cars offered by BMW in the recent past. The last BMW M3 CSL was built in a limited run of just 1,400 cars between 2002 and 2004 it is an very exclusive offering, and only the most dedicated opt for the extra expense and somewhat harsher and noisier ride characteristics of the car.

Now the CSL badge looks set to finally return on the M3 but it’s unclear exactly what it will be like. We should see more power from the familiar high-rev 4.0-liter V-8 but not quite as high as the 450 horsepower from the 4.4-liter V-8 found in the M3 GTS. Some parts on this concept that are borrowed from the M3 GTS, however, include the custom 19-inch alloy wheels, uprated brakes and a blacked-out grille. Other modifications include a tuned exhaust system, lightweight construction and a subtle bootlid lip spoiler.

No word on production but most BMW concepts based on the automaker’s production cars tend to receive the green light.

Interestingly, there have been reports that BMW M is set to unveil a new lightweight concept at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show this December, suggesting that we may see the return of the M3 CSL at the Japanese event

HKS USA, Inc a leader in the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) parts industry will be officially closing their United States operations. As of today, HKS’ plan is to close their US Operations by August. However, this does not mean the end of HKS as they will still be fully operational in Japan, where they will be serving their American market from.

HKS cites a declining industry, the poor U.S. economy as well as the weakening of the U.S. Dollar as reasons for their decision to close U.S. operations. You can read their official annoucement below.

Audi A3 E-Tron

By admin   |    April 12, 2011 1:24 am    |   Galleries, Motorsports, Motorsports   |    0 Comments

You live your life a quarter-mile at a time, but you still care about the environment. So, you’ve patiently awaited Audi’s hybrid Spyder. It’s latest tease is a far cry from the aforesaid ghost, but the A3 e-tron — an entry-level Sportback begging to be modified — is certainly sexy in its own right.  The A3-Tron prototype, an electric car derived from the current A3 Sportback.  The design is fully intact in the original model and the only difference is easily spotted on the different instruments.

Not exactly Fast and Furious material,  the A3-Tron is a pure electric.  It has a synchronous electric motor capable of peak power of 136 hp, 270 Nm of torque, a  declared weight of 65 kg and is liquid-cooled. Front-wheel drive, with a top speed of 145 km / h it touches the 60 km / h acceleration in 5.3 seconds and 100 km / h in 11.2 seconds.

Lithium-ion batteries (30 modules equipped with liquid cooling) with 26.5 kWh total are positioned in the center tunnel in the back, where normally there is the fuel tank and below the rear seat.  The range is 140 km, with 9 hours recharge time with 230V power and 4 hours in case of voltage of 400V.  The recharge management, among other functions, may be controlled by a specific remote application for iPhone.  You are given a choice of three driving modes: “dynamic” gets you maximum power from the engine and air conditioning,  “automatic” optimizes the values for extended battery life, lastly “efficient” power is limited to 68 hp, maximum speed drops to 110 km / h and air-conditioning is kept to a minimum.  Sinking the accelerator to kick-down mode you can switch immediately to full power for over taking.

While the weight of the battery pack is 300 kg, the total weight is 1592 kg, only slightly higher than a normal A3 TDI.  No hard word on availability or pricing — the company likely wants it on the streets by 2013.

Jaguar Growler-E to go into production!!!

By admin   |    March 10, 2011 1:07 am    |   Galleries, Motorsports, Motorsports   |    0 Comments

Swedish design company Visualtech recently shocked the world with a daring “reimagining” of Jaguar’s E-Type coupe  , the “Growler E”. Now comes word that the firm has decided to actually produce the retro-modern cat, as soon as the summer of 2012.

The exact details however, aren’t quite as sculpted as the car.  Visualtech states that they will start by producing three or four cars, all to be finished around the same time. Then, depending on demand, an unspecified limited run will be put into production via the help of companies Steyr or Valmet. Paying homage to the brand which inspired it, the Growler E will be powered by Jaguar’s 5.0-liter supercharged V8, currently delivered in the current XKR. With some light tuning, Visualtech expects a car around the 600hp mark, that will pounce from 0-60 in less than four seconds.

With a composite body, the Growler will reportedly come together through a carbon fiber structure and tube frames in both front and rear that will hold its running gear. Price? Well that too depends on the demand and scope of the run. You can expect it to cost anywhere in between $700,000 and $1.4 million, so if you want one, you better try to get a few friends interested in as well.

2011 Lotus Exos T125

By admin   |    December 30, 2010 1:09 am    |   Motorsports, Motorsports, Sports   |    1 Comment

The Lotus Exos T125 is an F1 race car in all but a few ways. The company’s building twenty five of ’em, selling each for a cool $1 million and forming a private racing league for the owners. Totally. Awesome. Think of the Lotus Exos program as the most brilliant F1 development strategy in history. Lotus is returning to F1, having announced their new F1-car and begun development testing already. The competition is fierce though, and development costs for the series are phenomenal, so what if there was a way to offset the cost and get some additional development while not breaking F1’s testing ban? That’s basically the Exos. Of course, that’s not the “official” story, but a wink’s as good as a nod.

The 1,433 lb Exos is an all carbon fiber F1-style race car fitted with a 650 HP Cosworth V8 with a blistering 10,300 RPM red line, an on-board starter, and a (get this!) 2,800-mile tear down schedule. That’s like sending the space shuttle up a half-dozen times before servicing it. As awesome as the machine is, the really slick part is the program surrounding it. Lotus will be forming the “Exos Club,” something that might be considered the greatest owner’s experience ever conceived.

The Exos Club’s perks read like every racing fantasy you’ve ever had. The owners will go through rigorous drivers training managed by a collection of engineers, race drivers, mechanics and physical trainers and physicians. The owner will be honed into a legitimate racing driver in not just the mental but the physical. Then, beginning in 2011, Lotus will put on five races for the owners across Europe.

‘Fast Five’ Trailer with Vin Diesel & Dwayne Johnson

By admin   |    December 14, 2010 5:14 pm    |   Motorsports, Random   |    0 Comments

“Next spring, this model is fully loaded.” Vin Diesel as a car-stealin’ ninja?! Universal has debuted the first trailer for Justin Lin’s Fast Five, the fifth movie in their insanely successful Fast and the Furious franchise of high speed, high octane, highly mediocre movies.

Vin Diesel premiered the trailer on his own Facebook and it’s packed with plenty of TNA, lots of explosions, and more suped up cars than you can throw a stick at, as expected. As we also know, this stars Dwayne Johnson as well as Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris. I’m not really into this franchise at all, but that’s just me. Watch and enjoy!

Watch the first trailer for Justin Lin’s Fast Five:

Dom (Diesel) and his team of top racers find themselves on the wrong side of the law again as they try to switch lanes between a ruthless drug lord who wants them dead and a relentless federal agent (Johnson).

Fast Five is again directed by Taiwanese director Justin Lin, who previously helmed Better Luck Tomorrow, Spotlighting, Annapolis as well as Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and 2009’s last sequel Fast & Furious. The screenplay was written by Chris Morgan, of Cellular, Wanted, Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious as well as the upcoming 47 Ronin. Universal is bringing Fast Five to theaters everywhere in 3D on April 29th next year.

Koenigsegg builds modern-day Volvo P1800

By admin   |    December 11, 2010 12:27 am    |   Galleries, Motorsports   |    1 Comment

Well not exactly, this project is being taken on by a sole man.  Mattias Vöx, the Koenigsegg engineer who has done some work on cars with the Volvo badge, one of which was his 1967 Amazon Station wagon from which he squeezed 600hp (448kW), is currently facing a new challenge. The new challenge consists of taking the famous Volvo P1800 sports car and turn it into a fearsome machine.

To aid him in updating the car, Vöx has solicited the assistance of Vizualtech, a design company from Sweden which has made several computer aided images showing the new bespoke vehicle. Although the general lines of the vintage P1800 will be maintained, changes will have to be made to make room for the state-of-the-art equipment that Vöx intends to equip the car with, including a front extension of the car reaching 70mm and larger wheel housings. Since Vöx will be installing a new V8 powerplant from the Volvo XC90 SUV, these revisions will help accommodate the large engine. With a 6-speed manual, the engine will be equipped with a turbocharger to bring power output up to 600hp (448kW). Included in the performance enhancements intended for the car are a diffuser at the back, a flat underbelly, and a modified front section to improve air flow. Although no date has been offered for its unwrapping, construction is going well under way at present.

According to a report by Auto Express, this custom Swede is slated to enter small-scale production at some unspecified date in the future. We can hardly wait.

Audi RS3

By admin   |    November 25, 2010 3:40 am    |   Galleries, Motorsports   |    0 Comments

Bigger isn’t always better. Case in point: the new Audi RS3 Sportback. Based on the compact A3, the RS3 sportback is a five-door premium sport hatch that packs a whopping 340 horsepower from its turbocharged five-cylinder engine – through to all four corners via Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system and seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission – to rocket to 60 in just 4.6 seconds.

The RS3 Sportback’s nearly 50,000 euro pricetag in Germany would put it around $68,000 in the United States. Unfortunately, it looks like Audi doesn’t have plans to bring the RS3 to the U.S. shores anyways, but they weren’t going to import the RS5 or TTRS either. Lets keep our fingers crossed.
