Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale

Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale

The Trident marque has catered to a more luxury-oriented market than the raw performance of its big brother on the Prancing Horse. But that doesn’t mean they can’t push the envelop just a little, and that’s what you’re looking at here.

Called the MC Stradale, this ultimate version of the GranTurismo bridges the gap between road and race models in the same way the revolutionary Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale did in its day. To get there, Maserati’s tuned the chassis, aero and engine to more closely resemble the levels attained on racing versions like the MC Trofeo spec racer and the GT4 competition model.

Modena claims increased downforce without a the combersum increase of drag, while the engine has been boosted to 450 horsepower as compared to the 430 in the existing GranTurismo S. That’s all Maserati has released at this point, read the press release after the video and check out the images in the gallery below.

Specs:
Engine V8, 4691 cc
Maximum power 450 bhp @ 7000 rpm
Maximum torque 510 Nm @ 4750 rpm
Top speed 301 km/h
Acceleration 0-100 km/h 4,6 sec

Top Gear’s “Stig” races over to Fifth Gear!!!

By admin   |    October 7, 2010 12:26 am    |   Motorsports   |    0 Comments

Ben Collins, who was the main person behind Top Gear’s white Stig character until recently, is joining Fifth Gear for at least 5 episodes. He will host segments and in addition perform “Stig-like” challenges.

It is said that multiple people portrayed the Stig, but Ben Collins has been the main person and the one who set lap times since 2003 when the black Stig was killed off after Perry McCarthy, who played the black Stig, came out with an autobiography. Ben Collins is now doing the same with an autobiography due out soon.

Sources say that the white Stig may be killed off and replaced with a third Stig.

Uwe Gemballa found dead.

By admin   |    October 5, 2010 8:52 pm    |   Motorsports, Sports   |    0 Comments

Uwe Gemballa, who founded the Gemballa company for Porsche tuning, disappeared after arriving in Johannesberg, South Africa five months ago. Unfortunately, Mr. Gemballa has been found dead, shot execution-style in the head.

Gemballa’s disappearance caused many outlets to question what Gemballa was involved in. The Sunday Times now claims he may have become tangled in a money laundering scheme involving Czech billionaire Radovan Krejcir and “The discovery of his body threatens to blow wide open an international syndicate stretching from Switzerland and Germany to Johannesburg, involving alleged money laundering, tax evasion, imported cars stuffed with cash and contract killings.”

We at EvilStar would like to send our condolences to Uwe’s family and friends. Thanks Uwe, for all the absolutely awesome creations that came out of your factory. Godspeed brotha!!!

While taxpayers are flipping the bill to keep America’s auto industry afloat, an undercover investigation shows illegal activities by Chrysler employees who have enjoyed nearly $15 billion in government money.

Dozens of autoworkers in Detroit were caught on camera drinking beer and smoking marijuana before heading to work at the Chrysler plant that President Obama praised in a speech just two months ago.

An exclusive investigation by MyFoxDetroit showed workers at Chrysler’s Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, Mich., drinking beer and smoking joints while on a half-hour lunch break at a nearby park.

The investigation — conducted over several weeks and based on tips from workers at the plant — outraged the auto giant’s top executives who reportedly called the behavior “totally unacceptable.”

Ferrari unveiled new 599 SA Aperta Roadster

By admin   |    September 27, 2010 10:55 pm    |   Galleries, Motorsports, Motorsports   |    0 Comments

Following reports of a private viewing in Pebble Beach earlier this month, Ferrari has revealed first photos and details of the SA APERTA, a drop-top version of the 599. Production is limited to only 80 units all of which have been pre-sold.

The significance of the 80 units pays tribute to styling firm and long time Ferrari partner, Pininfarina, for their 80th anniversary. The SA nomenclature also pays tribute to both Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina.

Described as a true roadster, a removable soft top design is used which Ferrari describes should “be resorted to only if the weather gets particularly bad.” Other body alterations include a lower-angled windscreen, integrated roll-bars flanked by aerodynamic fins and a lowered suspension.

The chassis has been stiffened to compensate for the absence of the roof, however, Ferrari states that any added weight brought on by the re-engineering of the chassis is negligible.

The SA Aperta is equipped with the familiar 6.0-liter V12 producing 661 bhp, same as the recently announced 599 GTO, the road-going version of the 599XX track car.

The SA Aperta makes its public debut in Paris this week.

Audi TTRS Coming to U.S., Thanks to Facebook Petition!!!

By admin   |    September 22, 2010 11:28 pm    |   Motorsports   |    0 Comments

Sometimes, the best way to determine an outcome is to put it to a vote. Just ask the Audi TTRS when it hits our shores in mid-2011.

“Last year Audi unveiled the RS version of its TT model at the Geneva auto show, but as with many European high-performance unveilings, the question of a U.S. import version was in doubt,” explains CNET. “To settle the question, Audi posted a survey on its Facebook page, and got 11,500 yeas for the Audi TT RS in a month. With this result, Audi says it will bring the TT RS to the U.S. by the third quarter of 2011, enough time in Internet terms for people to have moved on from car fandom to the latest Lady Gaga video.“

Jalopnik notes that the U.S.-bound TTRS has “no prices set yet, and only the hardtop aluminum and steel version makes the trip.”

“Audi is warning American customers that a limited number of cars will be imported, asking them to offer their contact info so that they can receive further information when this becomes available,” writes Autoevolution.

BMW 6 Series Concept Coupé World Premier at Paris Motor Show

By admin   |    September 21, 2010 12:58 am    |   Galleries, Motorsports, Motorsports   |    0 Comments

BMW has announced the world premier of the concept for its new 6 Series concept coupe at the 2010 Paris Motor Show Oct. 12 – 17.

Judging from the preview photos, the new coupe still retains some of those classic hallmarks that make a BMW coupe (stretched hood, short front overhang, a low silhouette with a swooped roofline).  The concept has a lower silhouette and a tighter rear end, giving it a sportier visual feel.

BMW says the 2+2-seater will have full-LED, adaptive headlights and a newly designed, freestanding control display for the iDrive operating system. It has a full-glass roof, Bang & Olufsen sound and the driver-oriented cockpit (instrument panel, electronics).

The best part is where most “concept” cars never see the light of day, what you are looking at is a concept car in name only.  Now while we like this concept over the current 6 series and it is a definite step in the right direction. We would have liked a little more, lets hope the next time they take a leap instead of just a step. What are your thoughts?

Lexus LFA Full Production Model

By admin   |    September 20, 2010 10:51 pm    |   Motorsports, Videos   |    1 Comment

“The LFA is a thoroughbred supercar, a machine engineered to achieve a single goal – to deliver a supreme driving experience,” said Chief Engineer Haruhiko Tanahashi.  “Over the past decade we have pushed every boundary in pursuit of this goal and I believe we have created the most driver-orientated car we possibly could.”  A decade of development? That makes it sound like that this should be the best supercar out there. Of course then you hear the price-tag of $375,000 and wonder if this Japanese supercar is worth purchasing over Italy’s Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Power for the rear-wheel-drive Lexus LFA, which is constructed using advanced carbon fiber technology, comes from a mid-front mounted 4.8L V10 engine that red lines at 9,000 rpm and makes 552-hp with a maximum torque of 354 lb-ft. Mated to a 6-speed Automated Sequential Gearbox, the LFA goes from 0-62 mph in just 3.7 seconds (0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds) with a top speed of 202 mph.

The Lexus LFA coupe will be produced at the Motomachi plant in Toyota City. Toyota will make just 500 examples at rate of 20 units per month “to ensure the finest build quality and attention to detail.” In fact, each V10 engine will be assembled by a single engineer that will bear his signature as a testament. Buyers will be able to choose from a range of extensive options and 30 different exterior paint colors. Lexus says that certain items on the standard equipment list can also be removed, such as the audio system, if you wish to reduce the car’s weight.

For a $375,000 supercar, that’s pretty exclusive.

2012 Lotus Esprit may be powered by Toyota V10

By admin   |    September 11, 2010 1:27 am    |   Motorsports   |    1 Comment

The new Lotus Esprit is due in 2012 and might use a Toyota powerplant, continuing Lotus and Toyota’s relationship in powertrain sharing. While the Elise and Exige use Toyota’s 1.8-liter I-4 and the Evora uses Toyota’s 3.5-liter V-6, expect the Esprit to use something more along the lines of the Lexus LF-A’s 500-hp V-10.

The original Lotus Esprit was available with everything from a normally aspirated four-cylinder engine to a twin-turbo V-8 at the end of its life. It seems Lotus is coming out swinging with the next Esprit due in 2012 by possibly offering the [unlaunched] Lexus LF-A’s 500-hp V-10.

Lotus’ flagship supercar would compete directly with the Audi R8 5.2 FSI and its Italian cousin, the Lamborghini Gallardo. Using the V-10 would certainly raise Lotus’ profile from the maker of some wicked street-legal track monsters into the realm of true supercars.

Ferrari issues recall for their 458 Italia model, due to fires!!!

By admin   |    September 7, 2010 11:57 pm    |   Motorsports   |    1 Comment

The Ferrari 458 Italia can now be added to the list of other vehicles that have been recently recalled.  Showing that recalls can affect the top end brands, Ferrari issued a recall of its new 458 Italia model after several of the vehicles suddenly burst into flames.  The cause of the fire appears to be due to a defect in the wheelhouse assembly.  A Ferrari spokesperson explained the issue to CNNMoney.com as:

“In rare instances the heat shield could become deformed, bringing it too close to the exhaust system and igniting”.

Five separate fire incidents have occurred in California, Switzerland, China and France.  In response to these fires Ferrari is recalling all 458 Italia model vehicles.  The 458 Italia model was first delivered to the US this Summer at a starting cost of $230,000. The vehicle boasts a 4.5 liter 8 cylinder engine with a 7 speed automatic transmission delivering over 570 horsepower.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) North American division has been informed by Ferrari that 303 vehicles will be recalled, and the owners may be eligible for reimbursement if they previously paid for repairs associated with the fire issue.
