By admin   |    May 4, 2011 8:00 am    |   Movies, Random   |    0 Comments

“May the 4th be with you.” is the quote on StarWars.com, but what could it be?   In classic LucasArts style the big reveal set for 6:00am PST has left me wanting. The tease countdown that promised ”All will be revealed” today, revealed very little.

Lucasfilm was tight-lipped, and secrecy was the whole point. I think more because there is not much to be said about the “big reveal” than to be secretive in itself.

So whats was this big seceret? what the hoopla about?…

420 – A pot smokers Holiday.

By admin   |    April 20, 2011 1:01 am    |   Random   |    0 Comments

Everyone is hungry, with bloodshot eyes and have a look of disconnect. Don’t worry it’s not Z-day yet, it’s April 20th, every pot smokers holiday. You have probably heard the term 420 before can figure out it has something to do with illegal drug use. But do you know why?

Here is a little history: ’420′ began in 1971 as a bit of slang casually used by a group of high school kids, called the Waldos, at San Rafael High School in California. ’420′ (always pronounced “four-twenty,” never “four hundred and twenty”) A reminder for the time they planned to meet to light up, 4:20 p.m. near a certain statue.

But most people don’t know the story and instead choose to believe other more enticing false origins. Here are a few examples:

420 is the penal code section for marijuana use in California.

Nope. Section 420 of the California penal code refers to obstructing entry on public land. The penal codes of other states list different entries for 420, but none of them matches anything having to do with marijuana.

However, on 1 January 2004 the Governor of California signed that state’s Senate Bill 420 which regulates marijuana used for medical purposes. This bill comes years after the term ’420′ was associated with marijuana and indeed its number likely was chosen because of the existing pop culture connection. This is the tail wagging the dog, not the other way around.

It’s the Los Angeles or New York police radio code for marijuana smoking in progress.

It’s not the ‘Police Radio Codes’ for anything, let alone that.

It’s the number of chemical compounds in marijuana.

The number of chemical compounds in marijuana is 315, according to the folks at High Times magazine.

April 20 is the date that Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, or Janis Joplin died.

Though these performers were strongly identified with drug use during their brief lifetimes and the emerging drug culture after their demises, none of them kicked the bucket on April 20. Morrison died on July 3, Hendrix on September 18, and Joplin on October 4.

The 20th of April is the best time to plant marijuana.

There’s no one “best time”; that answer would change from one part of the country to another, or even one country to another.

Albert Hofmann took the first deliberate LSD trip at 4:20 on 19 April 1943.

This was indeed the case — his lab notes back this up. But this wasn’t the source of “420,” just an oddball coincidence. (For the pedants out there, Hofmann’s first LSD trip, which was accidental, took place on 16 April 1943.)

It’s the code you send to your drug dealer’s pager.

Yeah, right. All drug dealers recognize a ’420′ page as “Please be waiting on the corner with my baggie of wildwood weed.”

When the Grateful Dead toured, they always stayed in Room 420.

Untrue, says Grateful Dead Productions spokesman Dennis McNally. But they do have ties to the wide spread of the term.

Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son donates over 10 billion yen

By admin   |    April 5, 2011 12:57 am    |   Random, Tech.   |    0 Comments

Masayoshi Son (Softbank CEO) donated ¥10 billion to “support the region and people affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami”, that equates to just under $120 million American. One might say the sum is pocket change for Japan’s wealthiest citizen, but he has also vowed to “donate to the same cause all of his future compensation as the head of Softbank.”

Softbank had already stepped up to the plate by offering free handsets to earthquake orphans following the horrific events that transpired last month.  But now on top of Son’s personal donations, Softbank as a company will also be handing over ¥1 billion, with both the man and his entity considering various channels for which the money will be distributed. We’ve got a feeling this is just a bit more serious than your average PR stunt.  We applaud you Masayoshi Son and your company.  Bravo

Woman hides 54 bags of heroin and cash in her vagina!!!

By admin   |    March 24, 2011 1:10 am    |   Random   |    0 Comments

After crashing her car Sunday, police said a Scranton woman suspected of burglarizing the Dunmore Inn was found to have a sizeable stash of drugs and money hidden in an unlikely location.

According to a criminal complaint:

Dunmore police Officer Anthony Cali asked Scranton police Officer Nancy Baumann to detain Karin Mackaliunas, 27, 1609 Mulberry St., at the scene of a crash at the North Seventh Avenue off-ramp Sunday evening.

After her car was towed, Ms. Mackaliunas was ready to leave the scene of the crash when Officer Cali contacted Officer Baumann and asked for Ms. Mackaliunas to be detained because she was suspected of stealing items from the inn.

After searching her for weapons, Officer Baumann found three bags of heroin in Ms. Mackaliunas’ jacket.

But as the officer drove her to Scranton police headquarters to charge her for drug possession, Officer Baumann noticed Ms. Mackaliunas fidgeting in the backseat of the cruiser.

After a struggle with Officer Baumann during a more thorough search at headquarters, Ms. Mackaliunas asked to speak with Sergeant Michael Mayer and told him she had hidden more heroin in her vagina.

A search of Ms. Mackaliunas by a doctor at Community Medical Center turned up 54 bags of heroin, 31 empty bags used to package heroin, 8.5 prescription pills and $51.22.

Ms. Mackaliunas was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Hollywood Golden Era Legend Passes on – Elizabeth Taylor Dies Wednesday

By admin   |    March 23, 2011 10:56 am    |   Random   |    0 Comments

Elizabeth Taylor, the violet-eyed femme fatale whose smoldering talent and eight marriages made her a legend of Hollywood’s golden era, died on Wednesday March 23, 2011  in Los Angeles. She was 79.

The two-time Oscar winner suffered from congestive heart failure and had been hospitalized in Los Angeles  at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center since mid-February.

“We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place for Mom having lived in it,” her son Michael Wilding said in a statement to The Times. “Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts.” He and Taylor’s other children, Christopher Wilding, Liza Todd and Maria Burton, were with their mom when she died, publicist Sally Morrison said.

Taylor, child actress turned adult Academy Award-winner and AIDS/HIV activist, was also known for her beauty and her love life — married eight times to seven men, with Richard Burton the one with whom she once said the love “was just too much” — as well as her friendship with the late Michael Jackson. While movie critic Kenneth Turan, in an appreciation, remembers the violet-eyed actress as being in “a class by herself”:

Her astonishingly dramatic personal life, characterized by full-throttle romantic love and later recriminations, serious illnesses and tragic deaths, matched the drama of her on-screen roles stride for stride and maybe even bested it.

Her movies — to name but a few — included “Lassie Come Home” and “National Velvet” as a tween ; “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” with Paul Newman; “Giant” with Rock Hudson and James Dean; “Cleopatra,” “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” and more with Richard Burton; and “Butterfield 8″ with Eddie Fisher. “Virginia Woolf” and “Butterfield 8″ had her winning lead actress Oscars.

Warner Bros. has fired Charlie Sheen!!!

Charlie Sheen has been fired from CBS’s “Two and a Half Men.” No decision has been made about the future of the show, according to multiple sources who have knowledge of the situation; they did not wish to be identified because they were not authorized to speak about the details of the situation.

Warner Bros. TV, which produces the show for CBS, did the firing, in a letter sent Monday to Sheen’s lawyer.

”Your client has been engaged in dangerously self destructive conduct and appears to be very ill,” Warner Bros. TV said in the letter addressed to Martin Singer. “For months before the suspension of production, Mr. Sheen’s erratic behavior escalated while his condition deteriorated. His declining condition undermined the production in numerous and significant ways. Now, the entire world knows Mr. Sheen’s condition from his alarming outbursts over just the last few weeks.”

CBS shuts down “Two and a Half Men” after Charlie Sheen slams bosses.

By admin   |    February 24, 2011 11:18 pm    |   Random   |    0 Comments

CBS announced late Thursday it has ended production of the hit comedy “Two and a Half Men” for the season.

The move came after the show’s star Charlie Sheen’s took to the air waves to slam “Two and a Half Men” creator Chuck Lorre in a rambling, erratic interview on the syndicated radio show “The Alex Jones Show.”

“Based on the totality of Charlie Sheen’s statements, conduct and condition, CBS and Warner Bros. Television have decided to discontinue production of “Two and a Half Men” for the remainder of the season,” CBS Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television said a statement. The show has been in hiatus since January when Sheen entered rehab following erratic behavior.

Sheen addressed the suspension of the show in an open letter obtained by TMZ.

“What does this say about [anti-Semitic term referring to Chuck Lorrie] after he tried to use his words to judge and attempt to degrade me. I gracefully ignored this folly for 177 shows,” Sheen writes. “I fire back once and this contaminated little maggot can’t handle my power and can’t handle the truth.

Lindsay Lohan to be charged with grand theft!!!

By admin   |    February 9, 2011 12:24 am    |   Random   |    0 Comments

Prosecutors said Tuesday they plan to charge Lindsay Lohan with felony grand theft of a $2,500 necklace reported stolen from a jewelry store last month — the most serious count the actress has faced in more than three years of trouble with the law.

District Attorney’s spokeswoman Jane Robison said the charge will be filed Wednesday. Lohan, 24, is due in court for an arraignment on Wednesday afternoon.

Los Angeles police said Feb. 2 that Lohan was under investigation for taking a necklace from a Venice store later identified as Kamofie and Co. Detectives obtained a search warrant to try to retrieve the item from Lohan’s home, but it was turned in to a police station before any search was made. Police said they had no update on the case Tuesday and did not say whether the actress had made arrangements to turn herself in at court or at a police station. Robison said bail would be decided by a judge.

A phone message to Lohan’s attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, was not immediately returned. Holley has previously denied any wrongdoing by Lohan.

“We vehemently deny these allegations and, if charges are filed, we will fight them in court, not in the press,” Holley said in a statement released Saturday.

The new case represents the most serious charges the “Mean Girls” star has ever faced. Arrested twice in 2007, Lohan was charged with drunken driving and drug possession, but both were misdemeanors.  Lohan remains on probation for drunken driving. A judge had threatened to throw her in jail if she ran into trouble again. Prosecutors in Riverside County have been considering whether to press charges against Lohan for a December altercation with a worker from the Betty Ford Center, where she was being treated.

Mexican Ambassador Infuriated with Top Gear

By admin   |    February 3, 2011 2:35 am    |   Motorsports, Random   |    1 Comment

In London – Mexican Ambassador Eduardo Medina Mora was infuriated by “insults” made by presenters of the popular TV motoring show “Top Gear.” He has written a furious letter to BBC bosses to complain about “offensive and xenophobic” comments made by presenters Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May during Sunday’s episode of the cult show, which has been sold to television channels around the world.

“Why would you want a Mexican car? Because cars reflect national characteristics don’t they?,” said Hammond as they discussed the Mexican sports car, the Mastretta.

“Mexican cars are just going to be lazy, feckless, flatulent, overweight, leaning against a fence asleep looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat.”

To add insult to injury the comedic trio attacked the ambassador personally stating,
“That’s why we won’t get any complaints about this because at the Mexican embassy the ambassador’s going to be sitting there with a remote control like this,” said Clarkson, pretending to slump in a chair, snoring.

It is uncertain if the personal attack was “the straw that broke the camel’s back” but what is certain is that the ambassador did complain, demanding the BBC order the presenters to make a public apology.

“The presenters of the program resorted to outrageous, vulgar and inexcusable insults to stir bigoted feelings against the Mexican people, their culture as well as their official representative in the United Kingdom,” he wrote.

“These offensive, xenophobic and humiliating remarks serve only to reinforce negative stereotypes and perpetuate prejudice against Mexico and its people.”

“It is not a matter of taste but of basic principles.”

The BBC said in a statement:
“We have received a letter from the Mexican Ambassador, and shall respond to him directly.”

Top Gear is well-known for its edgy banter and its hosts are no strangers to controversy. Hundreds of viewers complained in 2008 about a joke made by Clarkson about murdering prostitutes.

eBay Motors $30 million Class Action Lawsuit

By Eastwood   |    January 13, 2011 2:27 pm    |   Random   |    9 Comments

Have you ever sold on eBay Motors – Parts & Accessories? Many users and business owners have turned to eBay Motors as a way to increase sales and move extra inventory over the years, despite the high selling fees charged by eBay.

According to “Brice Yingling dba Alamo Auto Sports and Andy Scott vs. eBay, Inc.” from April 21, 2005 to August 26, 2009, eBay charged incorrect final value fees to its eBay Motors sellers. eBay of course denies these allegations. Under a proposed settlement, eBay would be forced to establish a Settlement Fund of $30 million to be reimbursed to sellers that were over charged Final Value Fees from the listed dates.

What’s this mean to most sellers who were overcharged? Well it means you might be getting back some of your eBay fees. But how much? At the moment, according to eBay’s calculations, which have not been finalized, it is estimated that the refunded amount would be around 6.67% of the Final Value Fees paid (net of any previous refunds). So the more you paid, the more you get back! You have several options if you were a seller effected by this. You can either do nothing and get a check mailed to your registered address, or you can opt out of the settlement and probably sue on your own, or you can object to the settlement.

At the time of this post, this settlement has not yet been approved. The Court will hold a hearing on March 28th, 2011 to determine if this final Settlement will be approved, if it is, expect a check in the mail. This is obviously a huge blow to eBay. Note: This Settlement only applies to eBay Motors – Parts & Accessories Listings, this does not include Store items.
